Hello all, happy Sunday! Time for some more environment mini posts – brought to you by us @ECOtionally ….
Are you up to date with the following?
Starbucks Sucks (at plastic free)
Did some ECOtionally work today on our next project (stay tuned for more deets!) and decided to work from Starbucks today ☕️. Safe to say they still have a long way to go toward becoming #plasticfree. 😞
I likely won’t visit here again to work, as this is inconsistent with what we’re trying to achieve with #ECOtionally ♻️
PS: and this was for dine in!
Seabins in Lake Ontario
Have you seen the new Seabins in action yet?
Toronto is one of the first places in Canada to try out the new technology, which sucks up everything from plastic, to cigarette butts to gas and oil spills.
Seabin has the ability to catch 90,000 plastic bags per year, 35,700 disposable cups per year, 16,500 plastic bottles per year and 166,500 plastic utensils per year.
I wish we didn’t even have a need for this machine, and we do. Maybe someday we won’t, for the time being, these Seabins are helping clean out waterways. Yaassss!!!!

We’re Not Only Content to Kill Ourselves Off, We’re Happy to Kill Off Marine Life Too!
Ugh, what are we doing❓
A sperm whale 🐋 was found washed ashore dead after swallowing 6️⃣4️⃣pounds of plastic debris. The male sperm whale was found on the Murcian coast in southern Spain 🇪🇸 in late February, reminding us how critical plastic waste in the oceans 🌊 has become.
Experts found the inner walls of the whale’s 🐳 abdomen to be inflamed due to a bacterial or fungal infection. This is likely a result of the whale unable to expel the plastics from its system.
Approximately 5️⃣ TRILLION PIECES OF PLASTIC are estimated to be floating around the world’s oceans 🌊 based on a recent study. To make matters worse, marine experts believe the total weight of plastic in our oceans could outweigh fish in the world’s oceans by 2050 🤯
These facts are simply astounding 😲. What can each of us do individually and as a community to make a difference in the world?
Maybe it’s saying no to plastic straws? Maybe is using reusable water bottles? Maybe is switching to bamboo toothbrushes? There are SOOOO many lilting things that we can do to make a difference.
Let’s engage in a conversation — what kinds of things are you doing to combat #plasticpollution?
Is there something in the news environmentally that we missed? Let us know, we’d love to check it out!
